Hill House in Helensburgh
Just down the road, in the local town of Helensburgh, is Hill House, considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic design.
The architecture itself employs Macintosh’s signature cocktail of Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Japonisme and, fittingly, Scottish Baronial. The majority of the interiors and furnishings were also designed by Mackintosh. Margaret Macdonald, his wife, designed many of the textiles.
Hill House is a stunning example of a well-restored National Trust held property, painstakingly cared for and curated. Even the gardens have been re-planted in keeping with their original designs, using plants that would have been available locally at the beginning of the 20th Century.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a stunning example of Mackintosh’s work so close to the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel. Please call us on 01436 860 420 if you have any questions.
